Try a violin before buying one.

The academy will provide a limited number of 3/4 and 4/4 violins at the Open House. Children whose size is suitable can try the instrument and join the open-class activities. Families do not need to purchase a violin beforehand; Iván will help determine the right size.

The Open House runs from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Free registration helps us prepare a useful welcome for your family.

Iván Hockley

Iván Hockley is an orchestral conductor, violist, arranger and educator. His training includes the Royal Conservatory of Music, Northwestern University and the Maestro Navarro Lara School of Orchestra Conducting in Spain. He has founded and conducted ensembles in Chile, Spain and Canada, and creates original violin and viola materials for young musicians.

Angela Otcuoglu

Angela Otcuoglu is Director of Las Conchillas Music Academy and leads its piano program. An award-winning pianist, composer and educator, she began her studies at Istanbul University State Conservatory and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in piano performance from McGill University.

Angela teaches the academy’s piano students and works with Iván in this course during selected rehearsals, ensemble listening and performance preparation.

Together, Iván and Angela connect string instruction, careful listening and performance experience. Families can meet both artists at the Open House.

Fall 2026 beginner program

Small-group study with strong foundations and a concert to work toward.

Weekly Sunday classes begin September 20. The program includes original course materials, sheet music, a year-end concert experience and a certificate of completion.

Practical details

Before you visit

Is the Open House free?

Yes. Admission is free, and advance registration is required.

Does my child need experience?

No. The fall groups are designed for beginners ages 7 to 15.

Should we bring an instrument?

No purchase is needed before the visit. The academy will have a limited number of 3/4 and 4/4 violins for children whose size is suitable to try during the open class. Iván will also explain sizing and next steps.

Which languages are available?

The academy welcomes families in English, French and Spanish.
